"Your plate saved my life..."

AP Freelance photographer Marco di Lauro, from Italy, shows his flak jacket after he was shot from an alleged Taliban AK-47 during a Northern Alliance attack to the Taliban positions. 50 km from the Afghan capital Kabul, Monday, November 12, 2001. Di Lauri, 31, escaped uninjured.

Di Lauri was wearing a vest containing an insert plate manufactured by John Marshall Armour Systems in England -- provider of protection systems for most of the Associated Press, worldwide. CoorsTek was chosen as their primary supplier because of our unique capability in manufacturing ceramic materials which provide protection above and beyond the requirements of NIJ standards.

CoorsTek also provides extremely hard materials -- ideal for use in personal, vehicle, and structural ceramic armor and defense systems.

Di Lauro's Thank You Note to CoorsTek:
"I am the freelance Associated Press photographer which Monday, November 12, 2001 got shot in the back during the offensive of Afghan Northern Alliance against the Taliban in Bagram, 50 km from Kabul, Afghanistan.

Well, one of your plates saved my life, thanks a lot."

- Marco di Lauro, Associated Press
