Continues Investment to Support Semiconductor Ecosystem in South Korea
Seoul, South Korea — CoorsTek, a leading global manufacturer of advanced technical ceramics, announced the grand opening of its third factory in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea.
CoorsTek, which has been investing in research and manufacturing facilities at its Gumi factory since it entered South Korea in 1992, will respond to the fast-changing demands of the semiconductor market and contribute to the development of the domestic semiconductor ecosystem with the new Gumi third factory.
CoorsTek plans to use the Gumi third factory as a center for new product introduction (NPI) to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products required by customers. Through the new factory, CoorsTek plans to develop and mass-produce optimal materials for various applications by introducing the CVD SiC manufacturing process, a highly efficient semiconductor material that has been advanced through continuous research since 2010.
After signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Gyeongsangbuk-do and the city of Gumi to invest in advanced ceramic manufacturing facilities, CoorsTek constructed its first Gumi factory in the Gumi National Industrial Complex. This paved the way to create a hub for its Asian production facilities. Recognizing the increase in demand for semiconductors and the competitiveness of the domestic semiconductor materials industry, CoorsTek plans to strengthen its manufacturing competitiveness in Gumi with the opening of Gumi third factory this year in addition to Gumi second factory, which was expanded in 2020.
The opening ceremony was attended by key CoorsTek officials, including Kevin Ressler, President, Semiconductor OEM Solutions, and Toshiyuki Kikuchi, Vice President of Manufacturing, OEM Solutions.
This new Gumi 3rd factory will serve as a key facility for CoorsTek to conduct cutting-edge research and development and expand production of semiconductor equipment components to respond to market demands. The entire CoorsTek team will work together to ensure the continued success of our business in Korea and strengthen the competitiveness of Korea's semiconductor materials industry.
