ESD-SAFE CERAMIC COATINGS AND MATERIALS PREVENT DISCHARGE & ARCING
CoorsTek has developed electrostatic discharge-safe (ESD-safe) ceramics to protect sensitive microelectronic components from static electricity buildup. StatSafe™ materials and ArcResist™ coatings have electrical resistivities engineered to slowly dissipate accumulated electrostatic and secondary electron charges — preventing rapid discharge or arcing.
StatSafe Alumina and Zirconia
CoorsTek provides a family of ESD-Safe alumina and zirconia materials with volume resistivity values to prevent rapid electrostatic discharge. These compositions combine the excellent mechanical properties of ceramic with the electrical properties required to safely handle microelectronic components and wafers susceptible to ESD.
Silicon Carbide Controlled Resistivity
Several CoorsTek silicon carbides have intrinsic ESD-safe volume resistivity properties where the unique properties of SiC are combined with the need to prevent electrostatic discharge. PureSiC® CVD Silicon Carbide, for example, is available in a range of high (HR), medium (MR), and low (LR) resistivities.
CoorsTek ArcResist™ Coatings change the electrical properties of ceramic components only where it is needed most - the surface. Where ESD and secondary electron buildup threaten your device or equipment, ArcResist makes it possible to change the surface properties without compromising the bulk properties of your component. A purely insulating surface accumulates charge, but ArcResist spreads deposited charges over a larger area — allowing a gentle bleed-off of surface charge to ground, preventing rapid discharge or arcing.
